lifestyle and culture

One of the main reason of this program is to allow us to discover and gain extensive territorial and worldwide view. Having an opportunity to teach in Jambi, Indonesia is very unforgettable and life fulfilling because knowing their culture and religion makes me realize that we are all different in our own ways, we just always see what our eyes see, but there's always behind that.

During my 25 days in Jambi, I was surprised because they are very accommodating, respectful, and they value their religion and culture. There's a thing for me that was shocked because it was very different from what I see on the news, television, and social medias. Most of my friends and students in Jambi are very sweet and funny, they always have joke in their mind that makes our group laugh especially Bang Robi, Bang Ferdy, Putri and Kaka Nita.

What I mostly observe is how they value their religion especially for the girls because they are sensitive especially when you accidentally touch them, but it didn't happened to me. That is the reason why our Host School brought us in SEAMEO program, to know the differences and how to adjust in every situation that we encounter. It is a lesson especially for the future educators to know the diversity of the students and how to deal with them correctly. As what Saint John Baptist De La Salle said, "The way you behave should be a model for those you teach".

FOOD

When me and Dane came to Jambi, we first went to a small restaurant and ate traditional foods of Jambi like Nasi Soto and Sate (Satay). On my first week, I had a difficulty on eating spicy food because I'm not used to it. In the Philippines, it is up to us if we want to put spices on their food. In Jambi, you can tell the vendor to less the spicy and enjoy the food. And on my second to third week, I'm really enjoying their traditional foods because it tastes delicious and extraordinary. The reason why we are here is not only to experience their educational system, but the wholeness of their culture and I really enjoyed it. We are given a chance to eat their world class traditional food "Randang" and the Jambi's trademark "Durian". I really appreciated their food and I am thankful because I am given a chance to eat it because it is very difficult to find on our place.

This is the food the I tasted in Jambi:

travel

One of the reason why we are here in Jambi is to explore and experience the beauty of it. We are luckily chosen to share our experience of our travel on each places that we have been. It was a great moment that we are there in Indonesia and Jambi where they are celebrating many occasion like Asian Games, Independence Day, and Eid Al - Adha, and in that time, we took that opportunity to travel around Jambi. We went first to "Gentala Arasy" were you can find the the river called "Batanghari" and their famous bridge especially at sunset and night were you can see the light show and the beautiful view of the tower. In that time, me and Dane ate spicy grilled corn, bakso, and estebu, it was very very delicious plus the view of the river and tower. Next destination is the Jambi Paradise were you can have picnic and relax in the place while having bonding with the family. Another one is the Jambi Temple. It is one of the tourist spot of Jambi. It is very big and very enjoying place especially for the family. We ridden bike to explore the Temples and it is very tiring because it was really really huge place. Last one is the Lubuk Penyangat. You can have a beautiful shot while doing canoeing with your family or love one's. It is very relaxing because there are so many trees and it is windy.

colleagues

In this project, we are able to find new friends and especially family. Without this program, I am not capable to have kind, supportive, funny, lovable, and trustworthy colleagues. They helped me to accomplish this program by assisting and not showing competition every time. I had friends from Indonesia and Thailand. Knowing that we have different culture, they showed their true selves and even if we have divergent religions and hobbies, they didn't show anything bad to me, just all love and support. I am very lucky to have them and I can't describe how I felt about them and we promised to each other that we need to still keep in touch even if we part ways because they putted a mark in my heart and it will stay forever.
